GUITAR TECHNIQUE TIP OF THE MONTH
Yes, it's "Doug's Dirty Little Secrets"
              Special Christmas Edition!

Carrie says Shhh, don't tell Doug's secret.

(Doug subtitled his Tech Tip as "Doug's Dirty Little Secrets" after reading someone's posted message on a guitar web forum. The writer asserted that professional virtuoso guitarists all had secrets they kept to themselves and wouldn't tell anyone else, so no one would play as well as them!)

Once again, for my Christmas Technique Tip of the Month, I offer a gift to you of a special arrangement of a Christmas carol. I usually try to make these easy to play (but still sound full and interesting) so they can be learned by Christmas.

NOTE: This is NOT the same arrangement as the one on my Christmas CD, In Heavenly Peace.

Listen to me play it. See what you think! (A separate window will open that you can minimize in order to still see the written musical example as you listen.)

This version of Away In A Manger uses the melody most often heard in England, but was actually written by American hymn composer William J. Kirkpatrick. It was first published in 1895. My special thanks goes to composer/guitarist Elizabeth Gagliardi for her valuable assistance with this arrangement.

The complete arrangement can be perused below, but it's hard to read from Firefox and Internet Explorer unless you magnify the screen).

It is best to view and/or print out the PDF version. (This will open in a new window.)

Merry Christmas. Enjoy!
