PERFORMANCES

Concert
A full-length concert is usually 2 hours long with one fifteen-minute intermission. Douglas' fee ranges from $500-3000. Other events such as a master class or school concerts can be scheduled in conjunction with the concert at little additional cost.

Appearance With Symphony Orchestra
Douglas has appeared with many orchestras from professional to high school. He prefers to make the choice of concerto in conjunction with the orchestra conductor according to the performance level of the ensemble.

In addition to a concerto on the program, Douglas can also include a segment of solos within the program. Other services such as a master class or school concerts can also be included.

Douglas' fee will be dependent upon the number of rehearsals needed as well as the format of the program. Fee range is $1000-5000.

School Performances (K-12)
These usually last 45 minutes and are in the format of an informance.

These are fun and casual presentations with Douglas performing and speaking about the guitar, music, and his life. He enters into discussion and questions with the students. He emphasizes the importance of dedication, discipline, and perseverence in achieving what one wants out of life.

School performances are often included as part of a residency or concert.

MASTER CLASSES

Douglas is an exceptional teacher and is very good at relating to the entire audience in a master class, not just the student who is performing.

He is also very good at teaching master classes for OTHER instruments! He has done master classes for university piano classes and string classes. He relates to them on a wider, larger scale than just technique. He is particularly good in covering repertoire by Spanish and Baroque composers. He also gives exceptional workshops about performance craft and career development.

Master classes are often held in tandem with a concert or artist residency. The fee for a master class independent of any other event is $400-1000 for a three-hour class.

ARTIST RESIDENCY

Douglas is a master at the artist-in-residence format. For many years, he was a top artist with Affiliate Artists Inc., the company that "invented" the artist residency and "informance."

Artist residencies can last from 3 days to several weeks. Residencies of more than two weeks are usually broken up into several visits. For instance, a university artist residency might last four weeks. Douglas would make four trips (two each semester).

Concerts, master classes, lectures, private lessons, school concerts, and other events are often scheduled as part of the artist residency.

Informances can even be scheduled for business and community groups. This is very effective if a goal for the residency is to develop more support for the arts from the community and business sector.

Douglas believes the artist residency is the most effective way for a presenter to maximize the impact of an artist in a community and develop new audiences for cultural events.
